Polycarbonate Car Bodies

Trim the body and smooth the cut edges with sandpaper.

Many polycarbonate shells come with a clear protective film on the outside—don’t peel this off until the paint has completely dried!

Cover all areas you don’t want to paint using masking tape or film.

Always begin with the darker colors and apply the lighter ones afterward to prevent the darker tones from showing through.

Make sure the surface is dry and dust-free before painting.

Tips for Best Results

Shake the spray can well for about 2 minutes before use, until you hear the mixing ball rattling inside.

Hold the can 20–30 cm away from the surface and spray in smooth, overlapping motions.

Color coverage may differ slightly between shades.

Apply multiple thin coats instead of a single heavy one to avoid paint running. You’ll typically need 2 to 3 coats for full coverage. Wait around 5 minutes between coats.

Do not apply a thick layer all at once!

Let the paint dry for 5 minutes before peeling off the masking and applying the next layer.

After painting, turn the can upside down and spray for 2 seconds to clear the nozzle.

Special Notes for Fluorescent Paints

Fluorescent shades tend to have less coverage than standard colors. Always apply only light coats.

Use fluorescent paints only at temperatures above 15°C (59°F).

Spray from a distance of roughly 15 to 20 cm.

Allow the fluorescent coat to dry for 30 minutes, then back it with a coat of white XTR Colour.

Only then will you achieve the proper fluorescent effect.
